Types of lingual braces

The past couple of years have seen a few new lingual systems enter the Irish orthodontic market. Whilst the principles behind all these systems are broadly similar there are a few detail differences.

The three systems of lingual braces that I want to look at are WIN, Incognito and Forestadent.

Firstly, WIN.

This new system has been developed in Germany by Dr Dirk Wiechmann. The Win system is an evolution of the Incognito system, this was also developed by Dr Dirk Wiechmann. It is a custom made brace. Being custom made ensures a better fit, and less impact on speech. The updates that Dr Dirk Wiechmann sought to make are based around making the brackets smaller and easier to manipulate.

Secondly Incognito

Incognito is perhaps the best known system. It was developed by Dr Dirk Wiechmann in Germany. Most people would probably know that the brace is made from gold alloy and the parts are custom made just like Win. The brace is made in a large laboratory factory in Germany.

Finally, Forestadent.

This is more of an off the shelf solution. Whilst the brackets are not custom made, they are reasonably small. This type of solution is ideal for simple cases.
