What is involved with Teeth Whitening?

Stained or discoloured teeth are a naturally occurring problem that affects a huge amount of people. It is usually brought on by lifestyle choices, ie: drinking tea/coffee/red wine or smoking.

Our cosmetic team of experts can help you with the teeth whitening process that will renew your smile. After your dental health exam and cleaning we will provide you with a whitening kit that has custom-made moulds specifically made for your teeth that you can take home. This is far superior to over the counter kits which can result in harm if used incorrectly plus you don’t see the same whitening results compared to the professional grade kit supplied by our cosmetic team. Only registered dental professionals are legally allowed to administer the correct amount of active whitening chemicals which will give you that beautiful bright smile you’ve always wanted.

Why do I need a Dental Health Review?

It is very important to see your Dentist at least once a year for a complete dental review.  A thorough review can prevent major dental issues from occurring and it ensures your mouth and smile stay healthy all year round.  A complete dental health review provides a solid foundation to any dental treatment plan if you are planning on any restorations or cosmetic dentistry.  Keeping on top of your dental health also promotes a sense of general wellbeing.

What is involved in a Dental Health Review?

If you are a new patient the dentist will ask you about your medical background and you will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire.  If you are already a patient the dentist will check if there has been any changes since your last visit ensuring that your records are kept up to date.

Oral Examination

During your dental health review the dentist will look both inside and outside your mouth, checking your teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks, roof and floor of mouth.  Your jaw joint and bite will be assessed to check for teeth grinding and muscle clenching.  Any dentures, crowns and existing dental restorations will be checked too.

Xrays

Occasionally the dentist will request an x-ray of your teeth as part of the dental review.  This will allow the dentist to assess the structure of your teeth, sockets, bones and any existing dental restorations in greater detail.  Please make sure to inform your dentist if you are pregnant before any x-rays are taken.

Scale and Polish

Typically after a dental health review your dentist will recommend that you have your teeth scaled and polished.  This will remove any plaque and tartar build up thus improving the health of your gums and of course give you a beautiful smile!

How Long Does a Dental Review Take?

Your Dental House dental health review can take 30-45 minutes depending on whether x-rays are required.   If you are a new patient please allow an extra 10 minutes to check in and fill out your medical questionnaire.
