So the journey continues. It’s always interesting to see whom is on board with you. Most of time its business people. Thus time there were a few lads that looked like they had been touring around South America. They looked like they might have lost their shaving blades and combs somewhere along the way.

A few improvements to Frankfurt airport, it really is a mini-city.

The temperature was 30 degrees in Hanover so that was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is near a lovely forest so I got some triathalon training done. Hannover really is a very nice place and the Germans are good fun. And Yes they really have a good sense of humour!

Things I learned not relating to braces, was that Haribo sweets are German and named after its fonder. Hans Riegel from Bonn (1920). So as they say, you learn something new every day. I think they are safe enough for braces too. You can let me know.

This month was very interesting for me as a few colleagues were giving some presentations. The type of things we looked at related to, in the main, on the precision of straightening teeth.

The best way to describe this as follows: There are a few different types of lingual braces out there. And all are capable of giving the patient a very nice result. The most important thing is always the skill of the orthodontist. However, as in all areas of life high –end technology combined with human expertise really can do magical things.

Each type of brace has its owns little bit of “know how” that are specific to it.

From feed back from my patients, the WIN appliance I use now use is their favourite. The same German orthodontist developed both the Incognito appliance and the Win appliance.

All these braces are made in one small town in Germany. “Bad Essen ” (his home town) is silicon valley when it comes to lingual orthodontics

.

WIN is the latest generation in this creative journey. The benefit to a patient is that it fits individually to the each tooth as each piece is custom made for each patient. In addition the technology that interacts between the piece on the tooth has been improved greatly relative to previous designs.

I have taken a photo of some of my colleagues who join me in Hanover. They come from all over the world, even as far away as Kuwait.

We have all learned from each other and it is wonderful to make new friends!
